Kalyanee, I somehow feel a greater respect for you, good woman. You got my respect the day you told me you won't vote for me!! :-) But today, beats that too!! :-)) Thanks for being so brazenly (I use that word very loosely here) honest here. I wonder why you do not speak like this in your blogs? Or you do and I have not been there for so long that I don't remember? :-))

Big,
heehee....then we disagree, w.r.t. the sending notes magic. It works, friend! We have the 'Top commented blogs' which are the ones who use note magic. It is tough to say no to a note, especially if we get followup notes from the same person asking why we did not read their blog after getting the 1st note!! Believe me, I have received those!
On the other hand, it is easy to choose *not* to comment on someone's blog just becos dat person commented on ours.
All said and done, the world works on favours. Real talent is rare and mostly goes unnoticed becos of difference of opinions or pure jealousy on recognizing dat talent, LOL! Anyhow, good arguments here.....

Tunnelvision, tell me something. Whom would you rather respect (or atleast feel positively towards). Someone who asks you for a loan directly without any bullshit or someone who tries hard tacts of endearment, which you can see through, in the hope of asking you for some money soon?

Thank you.

And yes, I will surely come and the posts you mentioned as and when time permits. :-)

Anne-G, You said two things that explain and close the debate - One, people are here for different reasons! And that explains everything. :-))

Two, if one wants to read good stuff all the time, best bet is published work!! :-))

Good to see you here. :-)

Vishy, Devil in Disguise!! :-)) Always hungry for blood, yeah? :-)) LOL

Kalyanee, ha..ha.. alter-ego? LOL

My ego itself is so bloody difficult to carry around, why would I want the pain of another one? And given a choice, I have too fine a taste to be reading and commenting on my own blogs!!! he..he...:-))

Sending notes don't work as much as you think, my friend. That is direct marketing. Networking is different. It is leaving a comment on your blog. Nice, sweet and absolutely enticing!! he..he..

By the way, just keeping in mind what keshav has said, I like to state the not everyone does it. But, let's say, if you took a headcount, 90 out of every 100 would be a safe bet!!!

BigMojo,

What is wrong with social networking?

I do not agree with your negative view about it.

People have innate need to socialize, communicate and might be drawn to any blog- good/bad and ugly they encounter in the process.

We do try to see/write what our friends recommend, write and do.

Lets not forget “Perato Principal” which states only 20-30% will produce 80-70 % results.

I do see some heavy grains of hard arrogance you are trying all of us to notice.

You write very well and that should not cloud your vision and to be arrogant.

That is a personal choice and trait too, but very few can afford it

Lets not expect every thing to be good or as we like it to be.

Please bear my networking exercise and read my posts:

Death Dance & Dog Fights

Bomb Blasts and Baazigars

For the sake of honor (Part 3)

Target London (Part 4)

Warm regards,

Keshav, good evening. Good to see you here. I am sorry to say that your first impression is wrong. I hate to prove people wrong, you know. Offends most, isn't it? :-) Now, I am not being cynical nor ranting here. I am being generously pragmatic. I want to elaborate on that but that will mean taking names and pointing figures. Proof is required whenever one is in doubt, isn't it? We can get into a debate over the validity of my claim here. But, what will it prove? That networking doesn't work? That would be stupid isn't it? Just last week, we had a plethora a posts from all kinds of people here proving without an iota of doubt the role of networking in the success of people who may be mediocre otherwise.

This is no attempt at humour either. You are not wrong! Phew! That makes me feel so much better. Didn't have to contracdict you again, you know.

And hey, Keshav, I think you are a terrific writer yourself. :-) But then you already know that, don't  you.

By the way, tell me one thing. Who is going to feel bad about this post? Those who have an audience because they are good? :-) The people who have a good network because they have been around for sometime and proactively made one? Or those who made a network so that they have an audience?

BigMoJo

This blog of yours did get read and commented on...so it has the right ingredient...controversy...that's one way of getting read.

Completely agree with Kalyanee's comment:

To those who wanna be read on Sulekha - send notes asking to be read.....
--- The reason I don't like to send notes is because I want people to comment on my blog only if they genuinely feel like.

People are here for different reasons. Some are here to read good writing, others to share and network. Some are here to blog, others to write. Some are here to express what they feel, others are here to invite the maximum number of comments...Some think it's common courtesy to visit at least one blog of the person who diligently reads and comments on their blogs numerous time...Even if every blog doesn't have literary value, there has GOT to be something that one can find that one can appreciate in a blog. Others would like to be discerning, and that is a valid POV too. Some seek high-value literary criticism, and sometimes that is not the easiest thing to get.

There are some great writers here...but if one wants to read great writing all the time...books of the published variety are the best bet :)

Nice topic for debate!!!
