Once you were a whirlwind
living inside my head,
a wild river running over my flesh.
Once you were a raging fire
in my abdomen,
a scream of protest in the wilderness.
Once I felt invincible in my naked skin,
I held the world in an unflinching dream.
Once I felt a passion unnamed,
and my eyes gazed at men unafraid.
Once I knew fairies by their names,
and wished upon their wings.
Once nights were spells that I fell in,
and days heavenly fantasies
in between.
Once love was a mystery, and
life a lustful dream.
Once my soul was a faithful friend,
today it trembles in my presence.
I remember
I too walked on water once,
my faith, when held both my hands.
Once we lived, but
then I buried you, my innocence.
Close
beautiful... the content AND the expression... made me think of a song by toad-the-wet-sprocket (and i like it a lot!) ...
walk on the ocean
step on the stones
flesh becomes water
wood becomes bone
...
now we're back at the homestead
where the air makes you choke
and people dont know you
and trust is a joke
we don't even have pictures
just memories to hold
that grow sweeter each season
as we slowly grow old
...

electric, good evening, dear friend. most delighted to see you here tonight. :-)) ah... that lyrics sound more profound and rivetting than my attempt at poetry, I say. :-))

hmm... i love those lyrics myself... it wasn't meant as a "comparison", though! your words have an effect on people in a different way too... :))
always good to read you, my friend!
